Although it wasn't a pot of gold,

Nancy was still enthralled at what she found at the end of the rainbow.

For this there be no mortal eyes behold,

The twinkling laughter of this lovely pond.

No pots of honey Winnie Bear has yearned,

No boastful genies that grant your every wish.

With cheap brass handle and a copper plate,

It was a portal to another world.

The door swung open to reveal pink giraffes and red elephants,

So curious a sight like surrealist landscape pictures.

Parading round and round they formed a circle,

Glanced beseeching towards the young intruder.

One began to sing, another followed,

What can they possibly want from the humble narrator?
